Every year, like clockwork, I would greet January 1st with a list longer than my grocery bill—pencil in hand and a head full of dreams. “This year, I’ll lose ten pounds, learn French, and finally get my furbaby to stop judging me!” I would declare, only to slip back into the comforting embrace of pizza and Netflix by mid-January.
But everything changed the day I launched my NMW (New Me, Who Dis?) business. Suddenly, I was thrust into a world where motivation was key, and resolutions felt like that weird cousin nobody wanted at family gatherings. I started learning about goal-setting, and let me tell you, it was like discovering the secret menu at your favorite coffee shop—everything suddenly made sense, and I was ready to order a tall cup of success!
Enter the “Word of the Year,” my new best friend who didn’t judge me for my past failures. Instead of making a list, I decided to choose a single word that captured my essence for the year. I thought about “Focus,” “Growth,” and even “Zen,” but ultimately landed on “Procrastination.” Just kidding! I went with “Character,” for this 2025. This became my guiding star, shining bright whenever I felt tempted to binge-watch another season of a show I swore I’d never watch again.
Next up was the vision board. I envisioned a collage of my goals: a fit body, a cozy home office, and maybe a picture of my dream home for inspiration.
Over the years, my approach to New Year’s traditions evolved. I swapped out the frantic last-minute resolutions for a more laid-back yet strategic mindset. Instead of stressing out about what I was going to achieve, I started reflecting on what I truly wanted and how I could make it happen—without sacrificing my love for bread.
And so, whether you’re a resolution devotee or a goal-setting guru, here’s the real takeaway: life-changing actions aren’t about perfection. They’re about finding what works for you, celebrating small victories, and maybe even chuckling at the absurdity of it all. So, as we toast to another year, consider this: whether your word is “Intentional,” “Procrastination,” or “I’m still figuring it out,” get ready to embrace the journey—vision board or not, bread, and all!
Here’s to a year of laughter, growth, and maybe even a little less judgment from your furbaby! Cheers! Starting any of these options below, can be the change you need.

1. Prioritize Self-Care
In the hustle of daily life, self-care often takes a backseat. Make 2025 the year you prioritize your well-being. Set aside time each week for activities that recharge you, whether it’s reading a book, practicing yoga, or enjoying a relaxing bath. Remember, taking care of yourself enables you to care for others more effectively.
2. Learn a New Skill Each Month
Embrace challenges and view setbacks as opportunities for growth. Set a goal to learn something new each month—be it a skill, hobby, or subject. This not only enhances your knowledge but also sets a positive example for your children and students. If you are looking to make extra money too, learning new money making skills is a great place to start. Such as freelance writing, web development, digital products, content creation and stock photography to mention just a few.
3. Foster Stronger Relationships
Whether it’s spending more quality time with family or reconnecting with old friends, nurturing relationships is essential. Aim to schedule regular family game nights or coffee dates with friends. These moments strengthen bonds and create lasting memories.
4. Focus on Financial Wellness
Consider setting financial goals that align with your values. This could include saving for a family vacation, investing in your education, or starting a side hustle. Being financially empowered allows you to take control of your future and provides stability for your loved ones. Do you recall goal 2? You would be killing two birds with one stone. Woot woot!
5. Engage in Community Service
Giving back to the community can be incredibly fulfilling. Choose a cause that resonates with you and commit to volunteering regularly. Involving your children or students in community service fosters empathy and a sense of responsibility.
6. Enhance Your Professional Skills
For educators and professionals, continuous learning is vital. Set a goal to attend workshops, webinars, or courses that enhance your teaching methods or career prospects. This commitment not only benefits you but also enriches the learning experience of those you guide.
7. Create a Mindfulness Routine
In a fast-paced world, mindfulness can help ground you. Develop a daily or weekly routine that incorporates meditation, journaling, or simply taking time to reflect. This practice can improve your mental clarity and emotional resilience. A daily gratitude journal is a great way to start.
8. Encourage Family Health and Fitness
Make health a family affair by setting collective goals, like trying new recipes or participating in outdoor activities together. This not only promotes physical well-being but also strengthens family bonds through shared experiences. Set up a calendar with family activities. This is the link to my favorite family calendar.
9. Embrace Digital Detox
In a technology-driven era, setting boundaries around screen time is essential. Aim for a digital detox day each week, where you unplug and engage in real-world activities. This can lead to improved focus, creativity, and overall well-being.
10. Set Intentions and Visualize Success
Take time to articulate your intentions for the year. Create a vision board that reflects your goals and desires. Visualization can be a powerful motivator, helping you stay focused and inspired throughout the year.
As you embark on the journey of 2025, remember that setting goals is a personal and dynamic process. Embrace flexibility and allow your aspirations to evolve as the year progresses. By prioritizing self-care, nurturing relationships, and focusing on personal and professional growth, you can create a fulfilling and empowered year ahead. Together, let’s make 2025 a year of positivity, growth, and transformation!
